When I started 365 Days of Sardinia, I wanted to help you navigate this rugged, beautiful island. But lately, I’ve realized that the most important parts of my journey aren’t just the places I visit, but how those places change me. I wanted a space to slow down – a digital corner where I can share quiet observations, minor cultural collisions, and the simple joy of being here. Just my thoughts, a bit unhinged. Welcome to Reflecting.
Sitting in the sun today, thinking about what I want to do later in my garden, I realized that I miss the feedback of shared thoughts. I miss those “I understand you, girl” moments. Living in a small village without even a supermarket doesn’t exactly make it easy to create new connections. For years, I’ve been trying to find a new “best friend” here, but between an 8-hour remote job and building a massive garden in my spare time, it’s a challenge.
Then I remembered: years ago, I found so many of my deepest connections through writing about the things I’m passionate about. Maybe it won’t work the same way in 2026, but I’ve decided to give it a try. It will take time and effort to navigate my current challenges to make space for this, but hey – if it makes me happy, why not?
My thoughts might be random, and they might not always find an audience, but at least I’m trying. I’m also looking at this as a writing experiment. English is the language I chose for this blog, but it’s just one of the many I speak daily. By writing in English, I hope to reach not just native speakers, but also the cultures I feel deeply connected to – German, Russian, and Italian.
So, that’s it. I am officially opening my Reflection zone. I truly hope I won’t just be talking to myself!
If you’ve ever moved somewhere new and felt that ‘small village’ isolation, or if you’re just a fellow gardener/remote worker – drop a comment. I’d love to know I’m not the only one pondering life in the dirt today.
